Biography

Joan Elkin Madison is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over thirty years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

Joan graduated from Barnard College in New York and Simmons College School of Social Work in Boston, Massachusets. Initially educated in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Joan was trained in Family and Couples Therapy at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. Whether she is seeing an individual, couple or family group, Joan is aware of the impact of family dynamics. 

Joan has training in chemical dependency, cognitive-behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy and EMDR. She continually seeks to learn about new ideas and techniques which can help people address their issues and solve their problems, and she draws from a broad knowledge base when assessing clients’ situations and implementing treatment approaches.

Joan has been adjunct faculty at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service and at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. She has also served as a field advisor for Columbia School of Social Work.

Joan is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work (NYSSCSW) where she has served as Past President of the Westchester Chapter.
